Suffers finger issue
Yates suffered a dislocated finger during Thursday's 2-1 defeat against Fenerbahce in the Europa League but that will not sideline him moving forward, coach Vitor Perreira said in a press conference, according to Jak Netting from VAVEL. "I think he's okay, the finger is not important to play. He has a true spirit."
Analysis: Yates was forced off at halftime in Thursday's Europa League loss to Fenerbahce after dislocating a finger. New manager Vitor Pereira said the midfielder should be available going forward, though the situation will continue to be monitored. Even if he were to miss time, it would not shake up the starting XI, as he has primarily filled a rotational role for Forest this season.
Unused substitute Saturday
Yates (hamstring) was an unused substitute in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Arsenal, confirming he is an option moving forward.
Analysis: Yates cleared the hamstring injury that made him miss all the game since early November as he was available off bench against Arsenal on Saturday. Yates has been mainly a bench option for Forest this season in the midfield and is expected to hold that role moving forward now that he is an option again.
Working on grass
Yates (hamstring) is making good progress and working on grass with the sports science team, coach Sean Dyche said in a press conference, according to Jak Netting from Vavel. "Ryan is looking stronger. He's not quite with us yet, but he's on the grass working very actively with the sports science team, which is a good sign."
Analysis: Yates is making good progress in the rehabilitation of a hamstring injury since he is currently working on grass with the sports science team. The midfielder is likely still several weeks away from making his return to the match squad, but his progression is a good sign according to coach Sean Dyche. Yates is expected to hold a rotational role for Forest once fully back fit, therefore his absence has a minor impact on the starting XI.
Makes progress in recovery
Yates (hamstring) is making progress as he continues to work towards his return from injury, with manager Sean Dyche saying "I said it would be weeks rather than days but he is making really, really good progress, He is back on the grass, although not with us, but he is back on the grass running and stuff like that. We are hoping it will be sooner rather than later. At first, we were worried about how long it would be but it is looking more positive now.", Sarah Clapson of the Nottingham Post reports.
Analysis: Yates picked up the injury during a Dec. 6 game versus Everton, and his rehabilitation went slightly faster than expected. He's still unlikely to return to the pitch, perhaps aiming to be an option in January. The midfielder was a regular substitute earlier in the season, serving as backup to Ibrahim Sangare, Elliot Anderson and Douglas Luiz.
Set for sidelines
Yates (hamstring) is set for the sidelines due to the injury he suffered against Everton, coach Sean Dyche said in a press conference, according to Jak Netting from Vavel. "Ryan has got a situation with his hamstring that's not going to be quick. We don't think it's too serious in the sense of needing anything done [surgery], but I think it's going to be a slow one."
Analysis: Yates suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's clash against the Toffees that won't require a surgery but still make him miss several games since coach Sean Dyche expects the injury to be a slow one. The captain of Forest has mainly been a bench option this season, therefore his absence won't force any changes in the starting squad.
Exits early
Yates was forced off the field in the 62nd minute of Saturday's match against Everton due to an apparent hamstring injury.
Analysis: Yates hit the sidelines after a short day of play Saturday, coming on the field at halftime but exiting just 17 minutes later due to an injury. The midfielder has only started in three of his 15 appearances this campaign, so this is a minor loss, although they will hope his injuries are small and he can continue as a rotational option in the coming games.
Assists from cross
Yates assisted once to go with one cross (one accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Manchester United.
Analysis: Yates entered Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Manchester United as a first-half substitute after Douglas Luiz was forced off due to injury. The midfielder's pinpoint cross setup the first Nottingham Forest goal and marked his first goal contribution of the campaign. With Luiz's fitness a question mark and Dilane Bakwa remaining without a timetable for return, Yates is likely to be competing with Ibrahim Sangare for minutes in the Nottingham Forest midfield.
First start of the season
Yates made his first start during Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Swansea in the Carabao Cup.
Analysis: Yates was a consistent part of the squad last season, but has been very limited in the 2025/26 campaign. He got his first start of the season in the Carabao Cup and played well, but couldn't stave off elimination. With the cup exit, Yates could find minutes tough to come by, as he's likely set for a minor role in the Premier League.
