Season likely over

Krafth (knee) has had an operation and is likely out for the rest of the season, according to manager Eddie Howe. "Emil's had an operation on his knee, so I think in all likelihood, it looks like the season is over, which is a real blow for us. He first had the problem on international duty. We hoped that he could come back and be okay, but it became apparent in training recently that he wasn't going to get to the level needed, and there needed to be a surgical intervention."

Analysis: Krafth is not receiving a good update Tuesday, as the defender underwent an operation on his knee and is likely to miss the rest of the season. This is a blow to a club that is dealing with issues all over the field, already without Fabian Schar (ankle) and Valentino Livramento (hamstring), now without another depth option in the defense. They will now wait for the return of Sven Botman for the addition of another central defender, currently only with Kieran Trippier left as a backup, and potentially needing to turn to some youth players to fill the bench.

Out another match

Krafth (knee) is out for Thursday's Carabao Cup match against Manchester City, according to manager Eddie Howe. "He's a big miss for us at the moment. He is trying to come back from a knee problem. He is not feeling absolutely at his best currently. I have no definitive return day for him. We are taking it day by day, and we will see him back quickly. He has always been such a reliable performer for us."

Analysis: Krafth is not going to be with the club for another match as he continues to battle knee issues, a rough spell on the sidelines after last playing Nov. 2. This leaves the club with a bit less depth in the defense, something to monitor as that department struggles to remain fit. However, he has only appeared once all season, merely serving as a backup when he is fit, although no return date stands in place.

Still far from return

Krafth (knee) is still not nearing a return, according to manager Eddie Howe. "Emil is further back."

Analysis: Krafth was thought to be only two weeks away from a return in mid-December, but is still in need of more recovery, with the defender still far from a return. This will likely leave him with a return near the end of January, extending an already lengthy absence. This leaves the club with less depth in the defense, although they will be helped by the soon return of Sven Botman (back).

Still two weeks away

Krafth (knee) is still out and his return date will be around the new year, coach Eddie Howe said in the press conference. "Emil is still out and his target date will be around the new year we think."

Analysis: Krafth has missed the last seven games due to a knee injury that will likely sideline him for two more weeks since he is targetting a return around the new year. Krafth is expected to be aiming the clash against Crystal Palace on Jan. 4 to return, although that won't impact the starting XI since he has been a bench option mainly this campaign for the Magpies.

Not involved due to knee issue

Krafth wasn't involved recently for Newcastle since he came back from international duty with a knee issue, coach Eddie Howe said in the press conference. "Emil came back from international duty with a knee issue, but he will be good."

Analysis: Krafth was left out of the squad in the last two games after dealing with a knee issue since returning from international duty with Sweden. The defender has played only one game this season, starting and completing one half against West Ham United in early November, and he remained an unused substitute in all the other matches. As a result, his absence from the squad does not affect the starting lineup.

Plays 60 minutes in cup

Krafth appeared for the first time this season, starting and playing 60 minutes during Wednesday's cup match.

Analysis: Krafth isn't a major part of the first team, and has been largely left out of the squad throughout the season. He got the start and played 60 minutes during Wednesday's cup clash with Bradford City. Krafth will remain a depth option, with his minutes coming in cups and with injuries elsewhere.
