Controlled Centre Back
Nods home from corner
van Dijk scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Saturday's 5-2 victory versus West Ham United.
Analysis: van Dijk rose highest and nodded home from a corner to add a second goal during Saturday's rout of West Ham. The center-back has played in 99 of the last 100 Premier League matches for Liverpool and is a rock at the back. The defender is one of the best in the league and has some decent offensive threat with Liverpool's good record on set-pieces.
Nets winner
van Dijk scored one goal to go with three shots (one on goal) in Wednesday's 1-0 victory against Sunderland.
Analysis: van Dijk scored the only goal during Wednesday's 1-0 win over Sunderland. The big center-back rose highest and nodded home from a corner kick to break the deadlock. It was one-way traffic throughout and Van Dijk was brilliant mopping up play and keeping the game in control after taking the lead.
Three assists
van Dijk assisted thrice to go with four shots (one on goal) and three chances created in Wednesday's 6-0 victory over Qarabag.
Analysis: van Dijk had a laughably good performance, assisting three times from center-back during a ridiculously one-sided rout. The center-back was obviously brilliant, and is an above-average attacking option in central defense. All of that said, van Dijk isn't likely to become a consistent goal-creating threat week-in, week-out.
Nets on Saturday
van Dijk scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Saturday's 3-2 defeat against AFC Bournemouth.
Analysis: van Dijk shouldered the ball in off Dominik Szoboszlai's corner in 45th minute. van Dijk was arguably at fault for all three goals, but still managed 11 clearances, one block and one tackle. He has now accumulated 27 clearances, two tackles and two interceptions across the last five games, but only looks like a shadow of his former self.
Three shots from center-back
van Dijk had three shots (zero on goal) in Thursday's 0-0 draw versus Leeds United.
Analysis: van Dijk did everything in his power throughout Thursday's match to try and earn the point, including popping up for three shots, though none of them troubled Lucas Perri's net. van Dijk is an excellent defender and has played a big role in Liverpool's run of eight unbeaten matches. He also has surprising offensive upside from center-back, making him one of the best central defenders in the league in most matches.
Ever-present in defense
Van Dijk has played every minute this season outside the FA Cup, maintaining his importance in the backline despite Liverpool's early defensive struggles.
Analysis: Van Dijk has completed every league and European match this season, though Liverpool's defense has struggled with 21 goals conceded in 15 games and only four clean sheets. He remains the team's defensive anchor and a guaranteed starter, contributing 10 shot attempts from set pieces and scoring two goals. He has also produced 114 clearances, already surpassing half of last season's total of 211.
Nets from corner
van Dijk scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Analysis: van Dijk rose highest and nodded home from a corner Wednesday, a nicely worked goal for the massive center-back. His size and speed consistently make him a threat from corners, and if Liverpool can improve defensively it would give van Dijk clean sheet upside yet again. van Dijk is the unquestioned top defender on Merseyside.
Nets heroic winner
van Dijk scored one goal to go with three shots (one on goal) and one chance created in Wednesday's 3-2 victory against Atletico Madrid.
Analysis: van Dijk scored a header in second half stoppage time, giving Liverpool a fifth late winner in the last five matches. It was a brilliantly worked goal from a corner, and a prime example of how good van Dijk is in the air. He remains one of the best defenders in the world, stout defensively and with a good nose for goal from set-pieces.
Four clearances and tackle won
Van Dijk logged four clearances, one tackle (one won) and one interception during Liverpool's 1-0 win Sunday at Burnley.
Analysis: Only one of Liverpool's players logged several clearances Sunday, van Dijk. For the 2025-26 Premier League, VVD's recent tackle won is also his first. Once again, van Djik's defensive effort helped the Reds maintain a clean sheet, which their previous game featured against Arsenal. Currently, his 2025-26 season includes 38 clearances, 9.5 averaged per appearance.
