Unlikely to feature again
Elliott is not available for Saturday's game against Leeds and likely going forward, manager Unai Emery told media during Friday's pre-match press conference. "[Harvey] Elliott, as well, is not available for tomorrow."
Analysis: Unfortunately for Elliott, Villa and Liverpool couldn't come to an agreement on new terms, which means he's unlikely to play again for Villa this season. If he hits a certain threshold, Villa would be forced to buy him, something Unai Emery clearly doesn't want. In what has been a lost year, Elliott made just four league appearances for Villa this season.
Plays full game Thursday
Elliott played the full game in Thursday's 3-2 win against Salzburg in the Europa League but the club still doesn't plan to sign him permanently, coach Unai Emery confirmed in a press conference, according to the Liverpool Echo. "It is not changing. Not changing, I told you yesterday it is not changing his situation. Today, he played and very fantastic how he helped us, but it's not changing our idea with him."
Analysis: Elliott is struggling to find some playing time with Aston Villa this season while on loan from Liverpool. The attacking midfielder played his first full game of the campaign against Salzburg in the Europa League on Thursday, contributing three shots but his situation remains the same, the club doesn't plan to sign him permanently. Elliott will likely see some playing time until the injured players return to the match squad.
Dealing with illness
Elliott is dealing with an illness ahead of Sunday's match against Manchester United, according to manager Unai Emery. "Elliot is sick today, he hasn't trained today or yesterday as well. And another player, normally, if everything's going well, tomorrow he'll be training and will be available for Sunday."
Analysis: Elliott has been dealing with an illness and has been unable to train the past two days, leading the midfielder to some late testing for Sunday's match. Of course, Elliott has been relegated to the bench or out of the squad the past couple months having not pleased Emery when given a chance this season. With January a couple weeks away, all signs point to a return to Liverpool from his loan.
Not with squad
Elliott is not with the Villa squad before a Thursday trip to Basel, and isn't likely to remain with the club, per manager Unai Emery."Firstly, my decision and also the situation. He is on loan playing with us, but he is not definitely adding to us with a permanent contract."
Analysis: Elliott has struggled to find playing time on loan with Aston Villa, and since he's already played for two clubs this season the only way he could play would be a return for Liverpool. With Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai it's unclear if the Reds have space, or interest, in bringing Elliott back for the current season.
Available for selection
Elliott (not injury related) is no longer loan-locked and is back available for selection.
Analysis: Elliott missed Saturday's clash against Liverpool due to being loan-locked but is now back available for selection. That said, he had a difficult start of season with Aston Villa which forced coach Unai Emery to let him out of the match squad recently and which creates doubt about his status moving forward. It remains to be seen if Elliott will be integrated in the match squads for the upcoming fixtures.
Loan locked against Liverpool
Elliott (not injury related) won't be available for Saturday's clash against Liverpool due to being loan-locked by his parent club.
Analysis: Elliott hasn't played much football since his last appearance came in early October against Feyenoord in the Europa League. The attacking midfielder hasn't convinced coach Unai Emery, who left him out of the squad for the clash against Manchester City on Sunday. Elliott won't return in the next fixture either, as he is loan-locked by his parent club Liverpool. His next chance to feature in the Premier League will be on Nov. 9 against Bournemouth.
Missing from squad
Elliott is not in the team sheet for Sunday's match against Manchester City.
Analysis: Elliott has gone unused the past three games and has now dropped in the pecking order even further, not even on the team sheet Sunday. It is unknown if this is due to injury or just a tactical choice, although he would've been unlikely to see the field either way. He has only played 100 minutes between league and UEL play this season with the club, just continuing his rough spell since joining Aston Villa.
Sent to Aston Villa for season
Elliot has been loaned to Aston Villa from Liverpool, according to his parent club.
Analysis: Elliot is still in the Premier League but with a new club, as the 22-year-old inked a loan deal for a season with Aston Villa. He last started in two of his 18 appearances in the 2024/25 season with Liverpool, bagging one goal and two assists. He now adds reinforcement to the Villa midfield, likely to earn more of a rotational role behind Morgan Rogers, John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Boubacar Kamara in the midfield.
