Gakpo continues to endure a difficult season despite making 33 starts in 41 appearances.
Analysis: Gakpo started both of the Netherland's friendlies in preparation for the 2026 World Cup but failed to make an impact, reflecting his season at club level in the Premier League. The forward has drawn criticism for his performances and attacking output despite recording eight goals and four assists in 41 appearances this season. The Dutchman has also lost his role on corner kicks, which he held earlier in the campaign, with Mohamed Salah and especially Dominik Szoboszlai now taking over those duties.

Analysis: Gakpo took a pair of shots, had both blocked and had a frustrating day otherwise. He sent in eight crosses, but none of them were particularly threatening. The winger struggled to make an impact throughout most of the match and was disappointing for the most part. It's par for the course for what has been a tough season for Gakpo.
Scores late goal off bench
Gakpo scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Marseille.
Analysis: Gakpo came on and finished the match in stoppage time, converting after Liverpool carried the ball into the box and Ryan Gravenberch supplied the final pass. His goal turned a comfortable night into a statement scoreline at the Velodrome. Beyond the finish, he helped Liverpool manage the final minutes through secure possession and smart positioning, while also creating one chance during his 11 minutes' shift. Gakpo's goal was his first after three games across all competitions without finding the back of the net. The forward will hope to score again against the Brentford on Saturday.
Plenty of volume in draw
Gakpo generated six shots (four on goal), nine crosses (one accurate) and five corners in Saturday's 1-1 draw versus Burnley.
Analysis: Gakpo produced plenty of volume throughout Saturday's draw, but none of it was especially threatening. The striker has been called upon to find another gear and has really struggled to fill the shoes of an injured Alexander Isak. Gakpo has been one of the most disappointing pieces of a hugely disappointing Liverpool side this season.

Analysis: Gakpo got the start up top due to injuries to Liverpool's other strikers. He had a quiet match for the most part before netting a late goal that seemed set as the winner before a heart-breaking equalizer. Gakpo hasn't been at his best throughout the season and will have to compete for the starting job on the left wing even though he's healthy once more. If Liverpool can get their attack going in the back half of the season, Gakpo would have plenty of upside.
On bench Saturday
Gakpo (strain) is on the bench for Saturday's game against Wolverhampton.
Analysis: Gakpo was seen with the Liverpool squad when the team arrived at Anfield, and the Dutchman will have a spot on the bench after missing the team's last three games due to a muscular problem. Gakpo should see steady minutes in the attacking line now that he's fit again, but he'll have to wait for his chance in this one.
Could return against Wolves
Gakpo (strain) will be a late call for Saturday's clash against Wolves, coach Arne Slot said in the press conference. "Cody is a bit similar to Conor [50-50]."
Analysis: Gakpo missed the last three games due to a muscular injury but could be back for Saturday's clash against Wolves since it will depend on his sensations after the final training session on Friday. Gakpo has been an undisputed starter for Liverpool this season and if he had to be fit for the game, he will play a decent role with Alexander Isak (ankle) sidelined for months.
Will return earlier than expected

"He [Gakpo] had a scan that looked promising so that means that we are not that worried anymore, as we were maybe one or two weeks ago. So that means he might come back a bit earlier than expected two weeks ago, but that's definitely not tomorrow and also not next week."
Analysis: Gakpo's first chance to return to the match squad will come against Leeds United on the first day of the year, although that is a positive news for the Reds since they expected him to miss more time due to his muscular injury. That said, the winger will still miss the next two fixtures at least, pushing coach Arne Slot to make changes in the starting XI, with Alexis Mac Allister likely playing upper on the pitch alongside Florian Wirtz until he returns to full fitness.
Set for weeks out
Gakpo is set to miss weeks with an injury, per manager Arne Slot."And [Cody] Gakpo unfortunately picked up an injury in the last game we played against Leeds and he will be out for a few weeks."
Analysis: Gakpo suffered an injury against Leeds United and is set for a spell out of the team. With Federico Chiesa (illness) out and Mohamed Salah out due to a dispute with Slot, Liverpool are severely lacking wingers. Youngster Rio Ngumoha seems set for a run in the first team, or Florian Wirtz could shift out wide.

It's been a mixed season for Gakpo and Liverpool as a whole, but at his best he has plenty of threat as a scorer and playmaker.

Analysis: Gakpo scored once and set up a goal from a corner during Wednesday's win. The winger has been undroppable on the left wing, even when going through some poor form, but he was excellent Wednesday. Gakpo's role on set-pieces was intriguing and his corner to set up his assist was brilliant. Gakpo will continue on the wing, a valuable role if Liverpool get their attack going consistently.
Goal in lacklustre performance

Analysis: Gakpo scored his third goal of the season, but it came during a flurry of missed chances. The winger hit the post three times, which is only the second time that a player has hit the woodwork three or more times since Opta started collecting data for the Premier League in 2003/04. He took five shots for the second time this season, but also missed a huge headed chance just after Harry Maguire had put United in front.

Analysis: Gakpo scored Saturday, a return to the goals for the winger, who has struggled along with the rest of the team in recent weeks. He still lacks some of the creativity Liverpool had previously down the left-flank, but he's a direct finisher with an eye for goal. Liverpool are dealing with massive squad turnover, but as they gel this side still profiles as one of the best in England, especially going forward.
Better at Burnley

Analysis: Post-extension, Gakpo's first appearance includes few stats logged Aug. 31 against Arsenal. In terms of quantity, he significantly improved Sunday. For the previous month of August, Gakpo's three appearances include five crosses and only one corner. Concerning both, he easily more than doubled the aforementioned tallies at Burnley.
Commits to Liverpool
Gakpo has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal keeping him with Liverpool until the 2028 season.
Analysis: Gakpo has become a key attacker for the club since Arne Slot's arrival and will remain with the Reds for the immediate future. The attacker is coming off a 14-goal involvement season last campaign in the Premier League and already has a goal and two assists in the new campaign.

Analysis: Gakpo provided a pair of assists during Monday's win, moving him to four goal contributions in two Premier League matches. It's been an excellent start to the left winger, who is hoping to fill the shoes of the departing Luis Diaz. Gakpo's numbers are excellent, though it's worth noting two of his assists have been simple passes that were finished brilliantly from range.
