Suffers shoulder injury

Sarr (shoulder) was left out of Senegal's squad to face Gambia Tuesday due to an injury and is a doubt for the April 12 clash against Sunderland, according to The Independent.

Analysis: Sarr logged minutes in Saturday's 2-0 win over Peru before the shoulder issue popped up, making the timing of the setback especially tough for new Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi. The Senegal international is a locked-in starter in Tottenham's midfield, and the possibility of losing him is the last thing De Zerbi needs with the injury list at Hotspur Way already stretching deep. Conor Gallagher looks like the leading option to step in if Sarr is not cleared to face the Black Cats, though the full scope of the shoulder problem should become clearer over the next few days.

Assists in Tuesday's loss

Sarr assisted once to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 41st minute.

Analysis: Sarr's headed pass in the 64th minute set up Archie Gray's close-range goal, a strike which briefly tied the match at 1-1. It marked his third assist of the season and it came on the lone chance he created in the match. He was very active on the defensive end as well, recording eight clearances, three tackles and one interception in his full 90 minutes of action.

Four shots in return

Sarr recorded four shots (one on goal) in Wednesday's 2-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Analysis: Sarr made his first appearance for Spurs since Dec. 9 after winning the AFCON with Senegal. He took a team-high four shots in the victory, double his previous season-high in all competitions. He also helped his side keep a clean sheet, recording three interceptions, two tackles and one clearance in his full 90 minutes of action.

Available to play

Sarr is back from international duty and is back available for Tottenham moving forward, according to Sam Tabuteau from The Standard.

Analysis: Sarr was spotted training in full on Tuesday after returning from the AFCON where he won the competition with Senegal. The midfielder is an option again for Tottenham and should regain a decent role moving forward, starting with Wednesday's Champions League clash against Frankfurt.

Back with Spurs

Sarr has returned from AFCON and is an option again for Tottenham.

Analysis: Sarr is back in London and ready for league play again, returning to his club after winning AFCON with Senegal. This gives the club a much needed addition in the midfield, as they have been losing numerous players to injury recently. He has started in seven of his 14 league appearances this season, an option for starting time if the club needs him.

Misses final with illness

Sarr missed the AFCON final on Sunday due to illness and saw his country winning the competition from the crowd, according to Taggat.

Analysis: Sarr couldn't play in the AFCON final that saw his country win the trophy due to illness on the day of the match. The midfielder will now enjoy the celebrations before heading back to London to be available again for the Spurs, likely for Saturday's clash against Burnley if he has recovered from his illness.

Going to AFCON

Sarr is set to miss three weeks with Tottenham as he goes to AFCON with Senegal.

Analysis: Sarr is has been on the outside of the squad in recent weeks, only really coming off the bench in a small role across the last three matches. The midfielder's absence should give more chances for Archie Gray to take minutes in holding midfield, as well as more chances for Lucas Bergvall during a busy run of fixtures.

Returns from injury

Sarr (undisclosed) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Arsenal.

Analysis: Sarr is in the squad after his undisclosed injury, training over the break to make his return. The midfielder is likely to maintain his rotational role moving forward, as he has started in around half of their league matches, splitting time with Lucas Bergvall and seeing more time if injuries emerge.

Option after break

Sarr (undisclosed) is an option for Sunday's match against Arsenal, according to manager Thomas Frank. "They are good, most of them. Pape trained and [is] available."

Analysis: Sarr was dealt a knock during the international break with Senegal, but is already back in the fold, having trained this week and upgraded to an option. He has started in their past three games, so this is good news for the club, likely to have him or Lucas Bergvall (concussion), who is also returning, to earn a starting role Sunday.

Dealing with knock

Sarr is dealing with a knock after sustaining an injury with Senegal during the international break, Matt Verri of The London Evening Standard reports.

Analysis: Sarr wasn't involved against Kenya on Tuesday after Senegal manager Pape Thiaw said the injury "wasn't a big one," and that the decision to take him off against Brazil was "precautionary." If deemed healthy enough by the Spurs' medical staff, Sarr should see healthy minutes in midfield after starting in six of his 10 appearances this season, tallying two goals and two assists.

Scores in Sunday's win

Sarr scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Sunday's 3-0 victory versus Everton.

Analysis: Sarr scored Spurs' third and final goal Sunday, a header in the 89th minute off a headed assist by Richarlison. Assists equalizer Saturday

Sarr assisted once to go with one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton.

Analysis: Sarr assisted the equalizing goal Saturday as he set up Joao Palhinha's strike in the 94th minute to rescue a draw. It marked Sarr's return from a thigh injury that cost him last Saturday's match. It was the only chance he created in his 12 minutes off the bench.

Sep 27, 2025

Back on bench

Sarr (thigh) is on the bench for Saturday's clash with Wolves.

Analysis: Sarr returned to the training ground earlier in the week and is now fit and available once more. He was left out of Wednesday's EFL Cup clash with a minor concern and is now back on the bench. Joao Palhinha gets the start for Saturday's match.

Sep 26, 2025

Training as expected

Sarr (thigh) is back in training ahead of Saturday's clash with Wolves, according to manager Thomas Frank. "In midweek Pape [Matar Sarr] was out as a precaution, he's trained today so that's a positive."

Analysis: Sarr missed out on the EFL Cup clash due to a thigh issue, but he's already back in training. His absence was originally labeled as precautionary and there's been no indication it was anything more sinister. Sarr should be straight back in contention for Saturday's starting XI, and fully rested.

Sep 25, 2025

Dealing with minor injury

Sarr didn't play against Doncaster in the EFL Cup on Wednesday since he's nursing a minor thigh injury, manager Thomas Frank told media during Thursday's press conference. "It was a minor precaution," he said. "A minor, how can you say... a little stretch to the thigh, so we didn't want to take any risks today. There is a good chance that he could be ready for Saturday."

Analysis: Sarr has started in all but one of the Spurs' six EPL contests this season, as he was on the bench for the Brighton draw this past weekend. Frank's words suggest that the veteran midfielder could be ready to return to the side as soon as this weekend, though they're going to be cautious with him. Sarr has one goal and one assist in five EPL starts in 2025/26.

Scores opener in 3-0 win

Pape Sarr scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal) in Saturday's 3-0 victory against West Ham United.

Analysis: Sarr started the fourth game in a row and completed 90 minutes for the third time this season. This was his first goal of the season, having also assisted on the opening day of the season. He took two shots in the match, and this was his second shot on target of the season. Sarr scored by heading Xavi Simons' deep corner.

Aug 18, 2025

Assists in Saturday's opener

Sarr assisted once to go with zero corners and one chance created in Saturday's 3-0 win over Burnley.

Analysis: Sarr set up Brennan Johnson's goal in the 66th minute, a goal which all but clinched the opening day victory for Spurs. It was a great way to start off the season for Sarr as he played well defensively too in his full 90 minutes of action. Although Spurs is stacked with talent in midfield, Sarr appears to have the trust of new head coach Thomas Frank thus far.
