Scores opener in FA Cup
Hato scored in the second minute of Saturday's 7-0 FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Port Vale.
Analysis: Hato got Chelsea on the board just two minutes in, pouncing on a loose ball in the box after goalkeeper Joe Gauci bobbled Pedro Neto's corner twice and calmly ripping a half-volley through traffic for his second goal under coach Liam Rosenior. He also carved up the Port Vale defense with a late pass to Alejandro Garnacho that directly set up Estevao's goal, ending the match with one goal and one key chance created. Hato has now scored twice in his last four FA Cup appearances for Chelsea and keeps growing into a real attacking weapon at left-back, a role he was not originally brought in to play.
Season high in interceptions
Hato recorded one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Sunday's 2-1 defeat versus Arsenal. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 65th minute.
Analysis: Hato got the call at left back over Malo Gusto following Marc Cucurella's injury and put in a great defensive shift. Three tackles tied him with Reece James for the most in the game, while three interceptions matched Moises Caicedo for the joint high in the match and set a new season high for Hato himself.
Two interceptions off bench
Hato (undisclosed) contributed two interceptions and two chances created off bench in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Manchester City in his return from injury.
Analysis: Hato missed the last two games of the year due to undisclosed reasons but could feature in Sunday's draw against Manchester City, contributing two interceptions, two chances created and one tackle. Hato is expected to remain a rotational player for the Blues moving forward.
Out with injury
Hato (undisclosed) is out for Tuesday's match against Bournemouth.
Analysis: Hato was unlikely to be an option Tuesday and is not with the team due to an undisclosed injury. Luckily, this is a minor loss for the club as they take the field, last appearing in a match Nov. 5.
Unlikely to face Cherries
Hato is doubtful for Tuesday's match against Bournemouth after missing Saturday's 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, according to manager Enzo Maresca. "For Bournemouth, no, I don't think [he will be ready to feature]."
Analysis: Hato was forced off during halftime warmups two games ago and is now dealing with an injury after missing Saturday's loss to Villa. That said, this shouldn't affect the team much, as he last appeared Nov. 5 and has gone unused multiple times since then. Even if he does somehow feature, a bench spot is only likely for the defender.
Full 90 in cup
Hato went the full 90 during Tuesday's 3-1 win over Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup.
Analysis: Hato has hardly played for the first team during the start of his stint with Chelsea. His last appearance in the Premier League came in early October, but he has still retained some role in cup competitions. Hato played the full 90 and did well against Cardiff City, but will remain behind Marc Cucurella in the pecking order moving forward.
