Starts again at right-back
Acheampong had three tackles (two won) and two clearances in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
Analysis: Acheampong would once again receive the start at right-back, filling in for Malo Gusto as he covers for an injured Marc Cucurella (hamstring) at left-back. Acheampong is likely to return to the bench once Cucurella returns, only starting in six games this season between center-back and right-back, mainly a rotational option.
Starts again, scores
Acheampong scored one goal to go with two shots (two on goal) in Saturday's 3-0 victory versus Nottingham Forest.
Analysis: Acheampong recorded his first goal of the season during the 3-0 win Saturday. This was also his fourth appearance on the season, starting three times as he continues to prove to a useful option to fill in the lineup for Chelsea.
Full 90 with England
Acheampong played the full 90 during an England U21 clash with Moldova.
Analysis: Acheampong limped off with an apparent issue against Liverpool, but he was back in full action during the international break. That points towards the injury sub being precautionary and nothing more sinister. When fit Acheampong should be a consistent starting option, especially with so many injuries elsewhere in the Chelsea starting XI.
Trains Wednesday
Acheampong (undisclosed) trained with the England U21s Wednesday, according to Bobby Vincent of the Mirror.
Analysis: Acheampong was injured in the club's last match after limping off the field, but is already trending in the right direction, with the defender in the England U21 camp training again. That said, he will look to appear with the club for their matches against Moldova and Andorra during the break, clearing him of injuries. That said, he looks likely to be fit by their return to play Oct. 18 against Nottingham Forest.
Injured Saturday
Acheampong was forced off in the second half of Saturday's match against Liverpool with an injury.
Analysis: Acheampong left the match in the 67th minute succumbing to injury and being replaced by Jorrel Hato. The extent of Acheampong's injury should be determined over the international break.
Returns to training
Acheampong has returned to training following an illness and appears to be an option for Saturday's match against Brighton, according to manager Enzo Marensca, per Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC. "I already showed trust and confidence in Josh Acheampong when we had every central defender available. We trust Josh not because of the injuries, nothing changed with Josh, we trust him 100%. He was ill this week and had the first session with us today."
Analysis: Acheampong was absent from the team sheet last match without notice, as the defender was suffering from an illness. However, he has now returned to training and is fit again, leaving him available moving forward. He did start in the season opener before four straight games unused off the bench, likely to continue on the bench if an option Saturday.
