Gets 90 in FA Cup
Torres started and went the full 90 in Sunday's FA Cup win against Tottenham.
Analysis: Torres returned to the bench a few days prior and was healthy enough to go the entire way Sunday. He took the spot of Viktor Lindelof in the XI and that'll likely remain the case going forward. Prior to his month-long calf injury, he was a regular in the XI next to Ezri Konsa and outside of the scoreless draw against Crystal Palace, Villa had no clean sheets across the six league and UEL matches missed.
Selected for bench
Torres (calf) is on the bench for Wednesday's match against Crystal Palace.
Analysis: Torres is with the team Wednesday after some battles with a calf injury, an option from the bench to face Palace. He has started in 10 of his 12 appearances this season, likely to work back into the starting XI soon.
Late call for Wednesday
Torres (calf) is a late call for Wednesday's match against Crystal Palace, according to manager Unai Emery. "Tyrone and Pau are close but we are going to train now, I don't know if for tomorrow they'll be available or not."
Analysis: Torres was deemed a week or two from a return after their last match but could be making that return a bit sooner, as the defender is set to be tested ahead of Wednesday's contest. This is massive news for the club after his six games on the sidelines, as the club could gain back two defenders, with Tyrone Mings (hamstring) also questionable. He started in 13 straight games before the injury, looking to return to a starting spot soon after his return to play.
A week or two away from returning
Torres (calf) is expected to remain out for another week or two, according to manager Unai Emery per Jacob Tanswell of the Athletic.
Analysis: Torres continues to recover from his calf injury as he needs a little bit more time before making a return to the pitch. He has missed almost a month of action and will likely aim to return either against Tottenham or Everton. Victor Lindelof will continue to get the start for Aston Villa at center back in his absence.
Few weeks from return
Torres (calf) is still a few weeks from a return, according to manager Unai Emery. "Pau, more or less, the same; one week or two weeks, something like that."
Analysis: Torres had missed the last week of action through injury and is going to miss out a bit longer, with the defender likely out another week or two. The club will be left without a regular starter for that time, leaving Ezri Konsa and Victor Lindelof as likely starters in the defense. Torres will wait for his return in January, potentially an option to start the new year against Nottingham Forest on Jan. 3.
Suffers injury
Torres was out for Thursday's UEL match against Basel due to an injury and is questionable for Sunday's match against West Ham, according to manager Unai Emery, per John Townley of Birmingham Mail. "Both they are injured. We have Konsa and Lindelof, both centre-backs, and Lamare Bogarde can play there. His versatility is fantastic. We will need players to feel comfortable, when we have players injured, like at left centre-back."
Analysis: Torres had to miss a midweek match Thursday after the defender exited the field early against Arsenal due to injury, now a question mark moving forward due to the injury. Unfortunately for the club, he has been a regular starter, so his absence will force a change if it continues. This will then lead to Lamare Bogarde and Victor Lindelof as potential replacements, unless Torres can come through as a late option.
Losing ground on starting role
Torres has four starts and six total appearances across Villa's first nine matches between the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.
Analysis: Torres has started Villa's last two matches due to the absence of Tyrone Mings (ankle), but when Mings and Ezri Konsa are healthy, they've emerged as the starting duo at center-back. This means Torres doesn't carry a lot of fantasy upside in most formats as a depth piece on offense who isn't starting regularly.
