Scores off the bench
Jesus scored one goal to go with four shots (three on goal) in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Leeds United.
Analysis: Jesus was a force off the bench with four shots, eventually logging a goal in Arsenal's route. The forward is healthy and should keep pushing for minutes in Mikel Arteta's side. If Jesus comes off the bench against Sunderland next weekend, he has a somewhat tough matchup. The mid-table side has only allowed 26 goals in 23 EPL games.
Brace in start
Jesus scored two goals to go with two shots (two on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and two chances created in Tuesday's 3-1 win against Inter Milan.
Analysis: Jesus made the most of his opportunity with two goals to pace Arsenal as the Gunners qualified for the Round of 16. The forward might come off the bench Sunday against Manchester United as he returns to action but even in limited minutes, he'll have a good chance to score. Man United have allowed 32 goals in 22 domestic games.
Finds back of net off the bench
Jesus scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Tuesday's 4-1 victory versus Aston Villa. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 79th minute.
Analysis: This was a welcome sign for all Arsenal fans, as Jesus has dealt with injury issues since his transfer into the side. The forward will likely continue to be worked in off the bench against Bournemouth on Saturday but could find another goal off the bench as the team has conceded 35 goals in 19 EPL games.
Two shots from bench
Jesus recorded two shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over Brighton.
Analysis: Jesus has been back for just over a month and has started to work into some minutes, as the forward featured for 19 minutes Saturday, a fourth straight game in league play, seeing an appearance. This is also after he earned a start in the Carabao Cup, playing 86 minutes in that match. However, the forward is yet to bag a goal this campaign, with seven shots in his four appearances.
Three shots in return
Jesus featured almost half an hour and contributed three shots (two on target) and one chance created in Wednesday's Champions League 3-0 win against Brugge in his return from a knee injury, coach Mikel Arteta commented in a press conference. "So happy for him, I think you can see how much we all love him. It's been a very, very difficult and long journey. For 11 months he's been fighting against another very difficult injury and to see him back with that smile, with that energy and with that quality in his first performance with us is something really impressive and we're all delighted for him. Yes, and especially if he continues to perform in the manner that he's doing and the energy that he's putting in training. I think he brings something else, and I was really happy to see that and for him as well, for his confidence to grow, for his teammates to feel him as well because some of them haven't played with him. So, Gabby has a really special quality where he suddenly connects everybody around him and that's something that we as a team need and it will make us better."
Analysis: Jesus played his first official minutes since his long term knee injury that kept him sidelined for almost one year. The striker played 28 minutes in Wednesday's win against Leverkusen and contributed three shots and one chance created during his shift. This is great news for the Gunners since he will be a boost in the frontline as well as in the group life, being a player that has the capacity to link others. With Arsenal often lacking options for the striker role and being obliged to play Mikel Merino out of position, having Jesus back will help the Spaniard to rest a bit.
Added to UCL list
Jesus has been added to the UCL list and is an option in the competition moving forward.
Analysis: Jesus recovered from his injuries a few weeks ago and is now seeing the boost to the UCL squad, with the forward added in place of Max Dowman. This does leave him as an option moving forward, although he is yet to see his first minutes since his return from injury. That said, they could come soon, potentially in their next UCL match after being added to the squad.
Bench option Sunday
Jesus (knee) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Chelsea.
Analysis: Jesus played in a closed-doors match last week and has made his return to play in league action this week, with the forward earning a spot on the bench. He will hope to see some time to test his legs after the long delay to start the season, although he is likely to continue in a rotational role moving forward.
Plays in closed doors friendly
Jesus (knee) was involved in a closed-door friendly and is nearing a return, according to manager Mikel Arteta. "We have to see. He's been out 11 months, and you need that progression; you need to see how his body reacts, and what else he needs. The players that we have available as well, it has to make sense to have the right balance in the squad. So it's a good thing he's very, very close at the moment."
Analysis: Jesus is seeing some work this week and his first minutes in a game since his injury, with the forward getting some work behind closed doors with the youth team. This is massive news for the Brazilian, as the forward could be nearing a return soon. It does now appear a return in December is likely, possibly gaining back an additional attacking option.
Nearing return
Jesus (knee) is nearing a return to action, according to manager Mikel Arteta. "Yeah, he's quite close to be fair, and it's earlier than we expected, in the next few days he's going to have another step to make, with a game that we're going to organise for him, and after that he's just going to be knocking on the door, because he's Gabriel, a winner, that's how it's happened."
Analysis: Jesus is still working on his recovery from a knee injury that has kept him from debuting this season. However, he is nearing a return and is on a faster path than expected, with the attacker starting to ramp up his training. The club is yet to confirm a planned return for the forward, although it appears he could see the field again in December if recovery goes to plan.
Continues work over break
Jesus continued to train over the break, slowly making his return from a torn ACL early in the year.
Analysis: It's been about 10 months since Jesus underwent surgery, so the general thought is that he should be close to returning. He's been training for a couple weeks and was initially given a December timeline. If all goes well, he'll continue to train fully and be an option for the senior team before 2025 is over.
Making steps day-by-day
Jesus (knee) is making the steps day-by-day and training since Thursday, coach Mikel Arteta said in the press conference. "It's about making the steps day-by-day in a different surrounding. He's been doing everything on his own; now he's got players around him, very competitive players around him, and let's see how he copes with that. But he's full of energy, I love the reaction of all his teammates when he first joined us and great to have him back."
Analysis: Jesus is progressing well in his recovery after being spotted in training on Thursday as he continues to make daily steps toward his return planned for December. The Brazilian is expected to be a valuable depth option once fully fit for the Gunners.
Spotted in training
Jesus (knee) was pictured in training Thursday and is back working on grass.
Analysis: Jesus is still targeting a return in December, but he was spotted in training. The forward will be a major depth addition when he's back healthy, as Mikel Merino is currently the backup option behind Viktor Gyokeres. Jesus scored three goals in 17 appearances (six starts) last season.
Aiming return in December
Jesus (knee) is aiming a return between December and January, coach Mikel Arteta said in the press conference. "He had a major surgery that it was going to take him many, many months. So, after discussing that with the medical staff and understanding the schedule that we had and when we thought that he could be available, that it would be between December and January, we decided to make that call. Like we've done it in the past with other players. Hopefully, we did it wrong and he comes back earlier. But at the moment, the provision was very clear."
Analysis: Jesus is still in his rehabilitation process of his long term knee injury and is expected to resume team training in December at best. That said, with the new addition of Viktor Gyokeres, the Brazilian's absence doesn't impact the starting XI of the Gunners since he will likely hold a rotation role once fully back fit.
Starts individual training
Jesus (knee) has started to train individually, according to his club.
Analysis: Jesus is seeing a major update this week as the Brazilian was able to train individually, working with a ball and running. This does put him in a decent spot, although he is likely around a month from a return still. That said, he will likley only have a depth role once fit, battling behind the numerous signings the club brought in this campaign.
