Progressing well from injury
Chalobah (ankle) is working his way back from injury but remains to be seen when he'll be able to return to the field, manager Liam Rosenior told media Friday. "Trevoh is progressing really, really well as well."
Analysis: Chalobah suffered an ankle injury in mid-March, and the initial timetable for his recovery was around four to six weeks. Even if the timeline is closer to the best-case scenario, Chalobah would be hard-pressed to return to action against Manchester City on April 12 or against Manchester United on April 18. The defender won't be an option to face Port Vale in the FA Cup on Saturday, though.
Will miss around six weeks
Chalobah (ankle) is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks, manager Liam Rosenior confirmed Thursday. "it's not as serious as we first feared. It's still a serious injury but we're looking at a period of six weeks, which is disappointing but from where we were a couple of days ago, straight after the game, we are in a better place than we thought."
Analysis: The latest diagnosis is positive for Chalobah, as the first thought from the medical staff was that he'd be sidelined for the rest of the season. The six-week timeline suggests Chalobah should return at some point in early-to-mid May, giving him an outside chance of playing again before the 2025/26 season comes to a close.
Diagnosed with high ankle sprain
Chalobah has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain that will likely keep him out weeks. According to Chalobah on Instagram, the initial worry is that it was broken.
Analysis: Chalobah's ankle took a nasty bend Tuesday and fortunately it'll only be a sprain for the defender. However, high ankle sprains are a little trickier because of the location and while there's a chance he returns after the international break, it's not guaranteed he'll be ready to start in two weeks. In his absence, Chelsea have a number of options who can enter the XI with Mamadou Sarr and Jorrel Hato on the top of the list next to Wesley Fofana.
Suffers injury against PSG
Chalobah was stretchered off the pitch in Tuesday's 3-0 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, after which manager Liam Rosenior said "I think he was really worried. I've just checked with the medical team. We'll obviously scan and assess him tomorrow. We are hoping and praying that it's not as bad as we first feared.", Bobby Vincent of Football London reports.
Analysis: Chalobah didn't finish the match and left his side with 10 men as they had no substitutions left, suggesting he sustained a worrying issue. The defender has been a consistent starter throughout the season, but he's now a major doubt heading into the weekend's visit to Everton. All of Tosin Adarabioyo, Mamadou Sarr and Wesley Fofana are options to feature in central spots if Chalobah's issue is significant.
Eight clearances in clean sheet
Chalobah had two tackles (zero won), eight clearances and one interception in Saturday's 2-0 victory versus Brentford.
Analysis: Chalobah recorded his ninth league clean sheet and continues to be the undisputed starter in central defense, having started the last two league games under new head coach Liam Rosenior after also starting midweek against Arsenal in the EFL Cup. Across those two league matches, he made two tackles, two interceptions and 16 clearances.
Scores opening goal
Chalobah scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
Analysis: The defender took advantage of a lapse in Arsenal's defense to give Chelsea the early edge despite being a man down. He could score again on Wednesday against Leeds, a side which has conceded 25 times so far this season.
Holds place in defense
Chalobah has started all of Chelsea's league matches when available, reaffirming his value to Chelsea's defense.
Analysis: Chalobah has played a consistent role in Chelsea's back line, starting every league match he has been available for and contributing to five clean sheets in 10 appearances. His attacking impact was stronger early in the campaign, with two goals and eight shots in his first five games, but he has managed just one shot across his last five.
Wins one tackle
Chalobah registered one tackle (one won) and five clearances in Saturday's 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest.
Analysis: Chalobah had a decent performance Saturday, winning two aerials while winning one tackle with a key pass vs Nottingham Forest. He's proven effective to be a every match starter for Chelsea, winning eight tackle and 18 aerials while keeping three clean sheets in the seven PL games played.
Back from suspension
Chalobah is no longer suspended and is an option moving forward for the club.
Analysis: Chalobah has served his suspension following the straight red card received against Brighton and is available to return in the next match. The center-back has been an undisputed starter for the Blues this season and is expected to regain his place after the break against Nottingham Forest.
UCL appearance, seven clearances
Chalobah (suspension) logged seven clearances and one interception during Chelsea's 1-0 win Tuesday against Benfica.
Analysis: Prior to Tuesday, Chalobah's latest appearance included a red card. However, it is a domestic-league offense. Available for the Champions League, Chalobah logged Chelsea's most clearances Tuesday. Thus, the 2025-26 Blues maintained their UCL's first clean sheet.
Shown straight red
Chalobah was shown a straight red card in the second half of Saturday's game against Brighton.
Analysis: Chalobah was given his marching orders after bringing down Diego Gomez when he was through on goal. The defender is set for a three-game absence, meaning he'll miss matches against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland. The earliest he'd be eligible to return would be the Nov. 1 match against Tottenham.
Scores late goal in 2-1 defeat
Chalobah scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Saturday's 2-1 loss versus Manchester United. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 50th minute.
Analysis: Chalobah scored his second goal of the Premier League season, both coming away from home. He has started each Premier League game so far this season and has had at least one shot in each Premier League game so far. Both of his shots on target have been scored from.
Much more active overall
Chalobah registered three shots (zero on goal) and one cross (one accurate) in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Fulham.
Analysis: For shots and accurate crosses, Chalobah improved his ongoing season's highs. But unlike Chelsea's previous game, when the center-back scored a goal at West Ham, he shined more defensively. Against the Fulham team, Chalobah also logged four interceptions and three tackles won, his current season's updated bests. So overall, Chalobah recorded an impressive August, which also includes 11 clearances and two blocks.
