Returns to bench
Zirkzee (strain) remained an unused substitute in Sunday's 3-2 victory against Fulham, confirming he is back available for Manchester United.
Analysis: Zirkzee made his return to the match squad during Sunday's clash against the Cottagers after shaking off an issue that kept him sidelined for the previous two matches. The forward ultimately stayed on the bench, as his role under new head coach Michael Carrick has yet to be clearly defined.
Returns to training
Zrikzee (strain) is back in training and nearing a return, according to manager Michael Carrick. "Josh is back training this week, which is good news. It's the first time he's trained since I've been here, so it's great to have him back.Josh has just been trying to work and get fit around the group. He trained yesterday for the first time and that's as far as it goes with me and Josh. I'm looking forward to working with him and nothing more needs to be said."
Analysis: Zirkzee is yett to feature under the club's new manager but could be back in the team sheet soon, with the forward back in training this week. However, he will need another game or two to regain fitness, not yet an option to face Fulham on Sunday. He could be fit as soon as next weeks match against Tottenham, although he is more likely to fit by the Feb. 10 match against West Ham.
Set to miss two weeks
Zirkzee (strain) announced he'll be out for two weeks, Andy Mattioli of Romapress.net reports.
Analysis: Zirkzee has seen little action lately and is now expected to remain out of the next couple of matches due to his injury. Additionally, there have appeared rumors suggesting his departure in the remaining days of the transfer window, so his future with the Red Devils is uncertain. All of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo Matheus Cunha will be the team's top offensive alternatives in Zirkzee's absence.
Dealing with knock
Zirkzee isn't an option for Saturday's derby against Manchester City due to suffering from a knock picked up in training, according to Rob Dawson from ESPN.
Analysis: Zirkzee won't be available for the derby against Manchester City on Saturday due to a knock he picked up in the recent days in training. The forward is also rumored to be on the move away from the club during the transfer window which could also explain his absence. Zirkzee has mainly been a bench option for the red devils this season, therefore his absence doesn't have an impact on the starting XI.
Registers first assist
Zirkzee assisted once to go with zero corners and two chances created in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Leeds United.
Analysis: Zirkzee was introduced for the final 27 minutes and made an impact by creating two chances and assisting Matheus Cunha for the team's lone goal. The forward has started only one of his last six matches, scoring in that lone start before being taken off at halftime, though his playing time may change under the new manager.
Scires second of the season
Zirkzee scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Tuesday's 1-1 draw versus Wolverhampton.
Analysis: Zirkzee scored his second goal of the season as his shot deflected past Sa in the first half to give Manchester United the lead. He was substituted at halftime despite his goal, making it two goals in his four starts. The attacker also created a chance in the game.
Finds back of net
Zirkzee scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Analysis: Zrikzee would enter the starting XI for a second straight match Sunday and would finally find the back of the net this season, scoring in the 54th minute for his first goal of the season. This comes despite only recording one shot, appearing to still be struggling for chances. He will likely return to a bench role in the coming matches, only holding a starting role until Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko return from injury.
